What is your home studio/property like?

My in-home studio is located in the Reston/Great Falls area.  It is in a light-filled loft in our home. There are two main areas of the studio–one quiet and very toasty area dedicated to newborn studio sessions, and one open/sitting area where backdrops/floordrops/props are used. Our home sits on a quiet lot with an abundance of trees surrounded by a wooden fence that makes for wonderful outdoor shots any time of the year. What types of props do you have?

Over the years I have acquired many props such as; professional lighting, baskets and a posing beanbag for newborn sessions, blanket and backdrop stands, vinyl floordrops and backdrops to mimic rustic wooden floors, brick walls, etc; an array of blankets, hats, headbands, wraps, banners, cake stands, wooden letters and numbers, classic children’s toys and books, chairs, benches, stools, etc.

When do you typically shoot?

Outdoor sessions are scheduled within 1-2 hours of sunset, or early morning (between 7:00 and 8:30 am) to take advantage of the best lighting. (Timing will vary throughout the year)  I schedule both during the week and weekends and weekends will book up first.   Newborn studio and newborn lifestyle sessions are scheduled during the week at around 10:00/10:30 am.

How long can I expect until I have the final edited images?

Within 4 weeks. 1-2 weeks after the session you will receive a link to an online gallery where you will make your image selections.  After you have made your image selections, I ask that you contact me to let me know that you are ready to proceed.  At this time, I will continue the editing process and within 1-2 weeks you will receive your final images via; the online gallery.

How many images will I receive?

It depends on the session.  Please see Session Packages or click on the category for more details Newborn Sessions, Family & Child Sessions, Occasion & Business Sessions.

Can I purchase more images than what come with the packages?

Additional digital images may be purchased individually or in bundles. Each additional image is $40 per image or 3 for $100.

Does the session fee come with a disc containing the images?

No.  The images are sent digitally and will be available for download for a limited time. You may however purchase a disc that will be mailed to your home for an additional $25.  Subsequent discs are $10 each.

Are the images in high resolution?

Yes.  They are in the highest resolution to accommodate your printing preferences.

Do you have more examples of pictures or galleries?

Yes!  I have many more on my Facebook page (Katie Browne Photography).  Here is a link: https://www.facebook.com/katiebrownephotography/

I accept cash, checks, and credit cards. Checks may be made out to Katie Browne Photography. Once we have had our phone consultation, an invoice will be emailed with directions for payment. Full payment is due by the time/day of our session.

Not currently. I am focusing on portrait and lifestyle photography at this time.

Do you offer gift certificates?

Maternity and Newborn Questions

When should I schedule a maternity session?

You can call and schedule as soon as you’d like, but I recommend that they take place between 32 and 36 weeks.

When should my newborn be photographed?

Ideally within the first 12 days of delivery; especially for the studio sessions.

When should I contact you to schedule a newborn session?

The sooner the better. It is best to schedule while you are expecting. I will pencil you in around a week after your due date/induction/c-section and we can adjust accordingly.

Do I need to bring anything to the newborn session?

I have all of the props at my home studio.  You are welcome to bring anything special such as a blanket, hat, etc.  It’s always a good idea to pack extra diapers/wipes and an extra outfit for you and baby (just in case).  I always encourage parents to bring plenty of extra formula/pumped milk, unless of course you are nursing.  I have an area in the studio with a cozy chair, nursing pillow and cover.

What should I plan to wear for the newborn session?

I encourage everyone in the family (who plans to be photographed) to wear neutral colors.  Solids/simple patterns photograph best.  A white and/or black shirt is recommended.

How is the newborn lifestyle session different from the newborn studio session?

The lifestyle session will take place at your home, rather than my studio.  The baby will be photographed in their most natural surroundings such as their family’s arms or nursery/resting area. Lifestyle sessions are aimed to capture real-life situations and to find beauty and art of the everyday. Studio sessions also include posed snapshots, often incorporating props.

How can I prepare for a newborn lifestyle session?

I would ask if you could have at least one quiet area where you would like for me to focus on shooting.  (Nursery, or bedroom) The more window light, the better. The master bed is a good place to capture some photos with the baby and family.  A simple, solid-colored bedspread/blanket or sheet is best.  During our consultation we can discuss other ways to prepare for the day of the session.
